2026 MAZDA CX-30 vs Honda HR-V

2026 MAZDA CX-30 vs Honda HR-V

Small SUVs promise the same things on the surface, so choosing one comes down to the hardware underneath. We’re pitting the 2026 Mazda CX-30 against the Honda HR-V to sort out where that hardware separates them. Bakersfield Mazda lays out the engine, traction, and equipment differences below so you know exactly what to look for on your test drive.

Engine Output

The 2026 Mazda CX-30 features a standard SKYACTIV®-G 2.5-liter four-cylinder that produces 186 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque, managed by a six-speed automatic transmission with manual and sport modes. Step up to a Turbo model and output climbs to 250 horsepower and 320 lb-ft when using premium fuel.

The Honda HR-V offers only one engine choice—a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that puts out 158 horsepower and 138 lb-ft through a continuously variable transmission. That means even the entry-level Mazda CX-30 has a 28-horsepower head start.

Traction and Handling Hardware

Rain or a cold snap will not catch you off guard in this new Mazda model, because i-Activ AWD® comes standard on every trim alongside Off-Road Traction Assist, G-Vectoring Control Plus®, and a brake-based limited-slip differential. The Honda HR-V starts you with front-wheel drive and reserves Real Time AWD™ as an available option, without matching many of the performance features found in the drivetrain of the Mazda CX-30.

The Mazda CX-30 opens with an 8.8-inch display and keeps climbing, while the Preferred trim and above brings you a 10.25-inch center display and wireless phone charging. Upper models implement a Bose® 12-speaker premium audio, a 360-degree View Monitor, and an Active Driving Display® with Traffic Sign Recognition.
