Oil Changes at Bakersfield Mazda-Here to Serve Customers from Oildale and Beyond.

Regular oil changes are the foundation of a proper vehicle maintenance routine. And while it's the most common service item, it's hard to overstate the importance. Your Mazda's engine contains many fast-moving metal parts that slide against each other thousands of times per minute. The problem is, due to metal's high friction coefficient, those parts can't slide against each other very well without some help. Engine oil creates a thin film between the parts that allows them to move freely. Without it, heat from the friction would skyrocket and cause catastrophic engine failure within minutes.

But that's not all engine oil does. In addition to facilitating smooth operation, it also cleans the engine by collecting contaminants like soot, dust, and metal particulates and carrying them to the filter. Unfortunately, oil doesn't last forever. Eventually, the filter will reach its limit, and residual contaminants will build up, causing extra friction and interfering with the oil's function. Swapping out the old oil and filter for a fresh batch ensure your engine continues to run at optimal efficiency for as long as possible.

When Should You Change Your Mazda's Oil

Thanks to advancements in engine and oil technology, modern cars go significantly longer between oil changes than the "every 3,000 miles" recommendation of the past. Newer Mazda models feature an on-board oil monitor that can tell you, based on driving habits, conditions, and time, when an oil change is necessary via a wrench indicator light. Mazda recommends not going more than 7,500 miles or 12 months between changes.

Oil changes, tire rotations, and brake inspections have similar recommended service time frames. So, it can be convenient to take care of all three during the same visit.

Should I Use Synthetic or Conventional Oil

Synthetic oil is a little more expensive, but it offers several advantages that make it well worth the expense. Synthetic oil lasts longer, performs better, and is less harmful to the environment.
